45% Of Iraqi Citizens Think Suicide Attacks Against US, Brits Justified

Didn't Cheney say the insurgency was in its last throes? Well, over half don't support attacks against us; that's progress. Or is it? Guess it depends on how many were against us before we invaded.

Rove Replacements Now Being Discussed At White House

Why Conservatives Oppose Miers

It seems a mystery why so many conservatives are opposed to the Miers nomination. There is one reason that makes sense: Republicans do not want to overturn Roe.

The issue has electrified their conservative base. It brings them to the polls. For hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of single-issue voters, they vote Republican for one reason: they oppose abortion.

Now imagine if this issue were taken away. What might those single-issue voters turn to? Education? Health care? Maybe even the death penalty? For Republicans, the abortion issue is useful to them only so long as it is legal.

And therefore it makes sense that one real reason conservatives oppose Miers is because she would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

There are other reasons that they might oppose her, such as her inexperience with Constitutional law. Or the fact that Bush's track record of placing "good friends" in high government positions has literally proven to be disastrous (read, "Michael Brown" or "George Tenet"). But the only reason that really makes sense to me is the idea that Republicans do not want to overturn Roe because they will lose an electrifying issue.

Losing the abortion issue would even have the opposite effect: handing the Democrats an equally electrifying issue for their base. The fact that abortion is currently legal means thousands of would-be single-issue voters for choice can afford to be complacent or apathetic. Suddenly, faced with thousands of women whose coat-hanger stories of botched abortions in the newspapers would drive them to the polls to legalize abortion again.

That is not something the Republicans ever want to see.

The Christian Republic of America

You know which countries have their political leaders make secret decisions with their religious leaders? If you answered the Islamic Republic of Iran, you'd be right. But apparently you would also be right if you answered the United States of America.

When asked why he is supporting President Bush's new nominee to the Supreme Court, Reverend Dobson, founder of the Focus on the Family, said, "I can't reveal it all, because I do know things that I'm privy to that I can't describe, because of confidentiality."
This is after he admitted, "It was leaked to the media that I've had conversations with Karl Rove and the White House, which is true."

What is the White House keeping secret from the rest of the country but sharing with Reverend Dobson? This is what religious republics do. They take counsel with their imams, ayatollahs, shamans or reverends. They share secret information, close out the public and make decisions based on strange interpretations of their religion. This isn't the America I signed up for. I signed up for a secular democracy where politicians were held to account and citizens made law, not cloaked religious figures.

Bush: God Told Me To Invade Iraq

"I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …" And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it."

Abu Mazen was at the same meeting and recounts how President Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state."

Cheney Urges Patience For War

The Iraq war has lasted longer than the time between Pearl Harbor and V-Day. How could we accomplish the destruction of Hitler's Army in less time than it takes to locate Osama bin Laden?

"Progress" in Iraq: Do the Numbers Add Up?

The president declared during his Saturday radio address that Iraqi security forces had “more than 100 battalions operating throughout the country”. Sounds impressive. On Tuesday, he told reporters “there are over 80 army battalions fighting alongside coalition troops… There are over 30 Iraqi battalions in the lead”. Okay, less impressive, but still notable. The problem is, just last week, two Generals told Congress that there was actually just one Iraqi battalion able to take on the insurgents on its own. ONE.

Iraq oil minister survives bomb attack

Thatcher Linked to DeLay Corruption; Document "Sealed" Because of "Explosive Nature" of Proof

In the dossier headed "Secret...wider circulation strictly forbidden", civil servants then warn ministers: "There would be considerable press interest in this case if it were to become public knowledge..."

"Evidence is sought from her about that meeting and her involvement in the alleged deception and violation of US criminal laws."

If Lady Thatcher is found to have been involved in the alleged scam she could face a criminal probe in the US or even be banned from travelling to the country.

Rumors Confirmed

Auburn, AL.
Rumors of the impending marriage of Beau and Beth were confirmed this weekend when Miss Manguso displayed her 1920's era ring to the masses of envious, unmarried women, sources say. The event unleashed further pressure from girlfriends on their unwitting partners. Between pages of the Dillard's registry, one such woman found her wedding dress-to-be for a tidy sum of $20,000, thus ensuring that her partner keep his nose to the grindstone. Beth plans to wear wellies with a green bikini, while Beau will wear his clan's kilt.

It has been confirmed that the event will take place in Scotland on the Carmichael Estate, ancient land of the Brodbeck Clan, during the Summer of 2006.

Source to Stephanopoulos: President Bush Directly Involved In Leak Scandal

Near the end of a round table discussion on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos dropped this bomb:

"Definitely a political problem but I wonder, George Will, do you think it’s a manageable one for the White House especially if we don’t know whether Fitzgerald is going to write a report or have indictments but if he is able to show as a source close to this told me this week, that President Bush and Vice President Cheney were actually involved in some of these discussions."

Bush Says Iraqi Military Is Improving

It seems that Bush doesn't read the news. If the loss of two combat-ready Iraqi batallions is "improvement," then i guess we are winning the war. Only one more to go, and then we can leave! Or maybe he just doesn't listen to his own generals.
